Sacked Kenya Prisons Commissioner-General Wycliffe Ogallo and Kamiti Prison Commandant Charles Mutembei, have been arrested by Anti-Terror Police Unit detectives. The arrests come shortly after President Uhuru Kenyatta revoked Ogallo’s appointment as the Commissioner-General of the Kenya Prisons Service.
Terror suspects Joseph Juma Odhiambo, Mohamed Abdi Ali Abikar and Musharaf Abdalla better known as Shukri vanished from Kamiti Maximum Security on November 15. President Uhuru directed Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to take all necessary action to pursue the Kamiti escapees. Matiang’i said that investigations suggested the escape was encouraged by laxity and incompetence in the facility.
The State Department of Correctional Services has been directed to sanction disciplinary action against all Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) personnel, who were on duty when the security breaches occurred.
