Jowie Irungu alias Joseph Irungu, has been sentenced to death for the murder of Nairobi businesswoman, Monica Kimani.

The verdict was delivered by Lady Justice Grace Nzioka, on Wednesday, 13 March 2024, who considered several factors in making this determination, including how the offense was committed, the consequences of the offense, and Jowie’s personality.

The judge described the murder as gruesome, horrific, and threatening, emphasizing that the late Monica Kimani’s killer did not intend to give her even one minute to live.

On 19 September 2018, Monica Kimani’s friends and relatives found her body in her bathtub. The prosecution urged the court to impose the death penalty on Jowie, emphasizing evidence that proved beyond reasonable doubt of premeditation and the use of a deadly weapon to accomplish the murder.

Monica’s family emphasized how her death had affected them, revealing she was their sole provider.

Jowie, a first offender, acknowledged that no amount of compensation could bring the deceased back to life.
