DOCTOR CONVICTED OF ISIS MEMBERSHIP SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON

On Monday, April 22, 2024, Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku of sentenced Ali to 12 years in jail after finding him guilty of five charges, including membership Islamic State (ISIS) terror group, organizing a meeting in support of terrorist activities, recruiting members for a terrorist group, collecting information for terrorist acts, and possessing articles related to terrorism.

During sentencing, Magistrate Mutuku declined a request by state prosecutor Duncan Ondimu for a 22-year jail term, citing the eight years Ali had already spent in custody during the court proceedings.

“After considering all mitigating factors, submissions by the defense and prosecution, and the time the accused has spent in custody during the trial, I hereby sentence the convict to 12 years in jail. He has 14 days to appeal,” ruled Magistrate Mutuku.
