Sexual violence is any act, attempt or threat, that is sexual in nature, could be verbal and or physical, and forced on the victim without his or her consent. These acts can be manifested through coercion, threats, physical violence, cultural expectations, blackmail inter alia.

Gender-based violence is an umbrella term for any harmful act that is perpetrated against a person or group of people because of their factual or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation and or gender identity. Women are often most disproportionally affected by incidents of gender-based violence

Sexual violence includes but not limited to sexual abuse, exploitation, assault, and indecent act.

Sexual abuse, is the act of making someone take part in sexual activities against their wishes.

Sexual exploitation involves a person profiting from the use of another person’s body in a sexual manner, in order to benefit financially or otherwise.

Other forms of sexual abuse include forced prostitution and rape.

What has been on the rise and probably reasons – Drug abuse among the youth, social media contributing to peer influence

Forms of GBV includes early marriage or forced marriage, gender discrimination, denial such as education, food, freedom and female genital mutilation.
