Police detectives yesterday arrested Ibrahim Rotich, in Changamwe, Mombasa. Mr. Rotich, who was husband to the late Agnes Tirop, is suspected to be behind the murder of the late athlete who died at their Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet home, on Wednesday, October 13. Residents in the area told journalists that the 25-year-old and her husband had suffered domestic wrangles for a while.
An excerpt of the DCI statement indicated Mr. Rotich was being grilled by detectives at Changamwe police station, to shade light into the incident, before being arraigned to answer for murder charges.
The detectives said, he was suspected to have fatally stabbed the two-time World Athletics championships bronze medalist, by stabbing her before going into hiding.
Just last month, the star athlete had clocked 30:01 to become the world record holder, winning the 10km road race, at the Adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
