Police on Monday, 19 February 2024 took Embakasi area by storm when they took a swift action to rescue 16 children who were being unlawfully held in a house located in Soweto, Kayole.

The rescue operation was initiated based on information provided by Daniel Odongo, a dedicated children protection officer in Embakasi Central constituency. Mr. Odongo alerted the authorities about the presence of the children in a plot within the Nyando area, which looked suspicious. Acting promptly, the police coordinated and conducted the operation, resulting in the apprehension of Linet Akinyi, a Kenyan, and Isaack Mwanjeka, a Tanzanian national.

The suspects, Akinyi and Mwanjeka, were taken into police custody after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for the presence of the minors under their confinement. The children were discovered confined in a two-roomed rental house un distressing conditions.

Initial police suspicions suggest a potential case of human trafficking, raising concerns about the intended destination of the children. As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are diligently probing the circumstances surrounding the case. Meanwhile, both suspects are awaiting further legal proceedings.
