A family of four was rescued after going missing in Tsavo East National Park for over 24 hours. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) confirmed the couple and their two children were found safe.

A Tsavo Trust pilot spotted the family near Kabaguchi Range Camp in the remote Yatta Plateau. That’s about 50 km off their planned route. The pilot landed, confirmed their safety, and alerted rescue teams.

KWS and Tsavo Trust ground teams quickly moved in. The family is now out of the park and undergoing medical checks.

They had entered the park through Manyani Gate on Sunday, April 5, planning to camp at Lugard’s Falls for two nights. They were to exit via Sala Gate on Monday.

When they failed to check out by 8 p.m., rangers launched a search. Their car had gotten stuck after they veered off-route during a game drive. KWS said their decision to stay with the vehicle made the rescue possible.

The rescue involved a helicopter, two fixed-wing aircraft, local rangers, and several ground teams.

KWS praised the fast coordination between conservation partners and local teams. “This shows Kenya’s commitment to safety and strong conservation management,” the statement said.

The family will soon reunite with loved ones. A follow-up session will be held soon to assess how the situation unfolded. KWS thanked them for their calmness and cooperation during the rescue.
