Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Juma, yesterday, sentenced former Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario to a fine of 3.6 million shillings or serve a 6-year jail term. However, Wario paid his fine and walked out of the court a free man.

His co-accused, Mr. Soi, stares at a 10-year jail term or a fine of 103 million shillings. The two were facing charges of corruption, abuse of office, and misuse of public funds, as was sufficiently determined by the Milimani based Anti-Corruption Court.

In her ruling, Juma said issues arose in the manner which tickets to attend the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were raised and quickly cancelled, and unjustified distribution of allowances to delegates. Mr. Soi has 14 days to appeal the decision.
