A Meru couple was sentenced to life imprisonment by Senior Principal Magistrate Muraguri for trafficking bhang worth KShs. 3.5 million on September 29, 2021.
James Muthiora alias Karinta and his wife Fridah Karimi were accused of committing the offence alongside Timothy Kinoti Kariaci, Joseph Ekeno and Jacob Githae Mukunyu.
The four were arrested at Karinta’s home in Meru County in November, 2018, during a raid by then, Meru Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO), James Githinji and Meru County Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga.
On November 1, 2018, the four denied the three charges including trafficking 103kg of bhang worth over KShs. 3 million, at Kooje Estate in North Imenti.
The ruling came just days after a form three student was arrested at Rapogi Mixed Secondary School in Kombewa, Seme Sub-county, Western Kenya, after he was caught peddling bhang to fellow students. The student was found in possession of 11 sticks of the narcotics.
