The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially resumed the continuous voter registration exercise in preparation for the 2027 General Elections.
The launch event was held in Kajiado County and marks the beginning of a nationwide registration campaign. The exercise will be rolled out across all 290 constituencies in the country through IEBC constituency offices and Huduma Centres.
IEBC is targeting to register 6.3 million new voters, particularly citizens who have turned 18 years since the last registration, Kenyans who have never registered before and existing voters who wish to transfer their registration to different polling stations.
According to IEBC Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana, eligible Kenyans will need to present either their original national ID, or a valid Kenyan passport to complete the registration process.
Voter registration had been suspended in June 2022, ahead of the August 2022 elections. Commissioner Mukhwana explained that although the Commission had initially announced plans to resume registration on August 8, 2025, operational delays prevented the exercise from taking off at the time.
“And therefore, we have now resumed the voter registration in accordance with the constitutional requirement,” he affirmed.
Mukhwana also emphasized IEBC’s compliance with data protection laws, highlighting the use of the advanced Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) kits during the registration process.
“Unlike previous systems, KIEMS kits scan and capture all biometric data of the voter, ensuring greater accuracy and eliminating manual entry errors,” he noted. “The data is transmitted directly to the IEBC database, where it is cleaned and verified to prevent inclusion of deceased individuals.”
To register, visit your constituency IEBC office or nearest Huduma Centre, bring your original national ID or Kenyan passport and ensure your details are accurately captured
