Joseph Kairo Wambui alias Khalif Kairo has been freed on Kes. 2 million cash bail after spending 3 nights in custody in Capitol hill police station over alleged fraud related case.

Kairo had been accused of failing to deliver clients vehicles for Jeff Munene and Dona Okoth. According to the charge sheet presented in court by the Prosecution team of this case, Jeff Munene allegedly paid Kairo Kes.2.1 million to deliver a Honda Vezel Hybrid to him from Japan on 25th of July 2024 but the vehicle is yet to be delivered to him till date.

On the other hand, Ms. Dona Okoth allegedly paid Kairo Kes. 2.98 million for a Subaru outback  and till today, she can but hope to receive the vehicle.

According to an affidavit sworn by the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Kairo had planned to escape the country to New York following these allegations but they apprehended just before he could flee. Khalif had booked a ticket to New York for 13th of January 2025.

Despite these allegations, Joseph Kairo denied all charges against him before magistrate Lucas Onyina. He mentioned to the magistrate that he was not fleeing the country rather, he was set to visit New York for a business meeting with investors. He added that the DCI officers did not find him, he was the one that told them where he was.

His lawyers, led by Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta argued that Kairo is innocent and that his case stems from business rivalry. Danstan mentioned to the court that Kairo sold over 300 cars in 2024 which amounted to Kes 1.3 billion and this makes Kairo’s competitors feel like they are being thrown out of business.

Kairo was being detained at Capitol Hill police station and his defense team have been fighting for his release to allow him to continue generating income as he is also an employer of 25 people.

However, the prosecution team wanted him tried while on remand arguing that if he is released he will flee the jurisdiction alluding that it took a long time for the DCI officers to trace Kairo.

Kairo’s Lawyers have challenged the prosecution team arguing that they have no compelling reasons to have him denied bail.
