Renowned activist and lawyer Morara Kebaso has officially declared his intention to run for president in the upcoming General Election. The announcement was made on Monday, November 16, through an update on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“I will run for president of the Republic of Kenya. My tribe is the youth of Kenya,” Kebaso stated, underscoring his commitment to youth empowerment and inclusivity in national leadership.
The announcement comes on the heels of another notable development in Kenya’s political landscape. Kasmuel McOure, a prominent figure who gained recognition during the GenZ protests, recently joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. On Sunday, November 10, McOure issued a rallying call to young Kenyans to align themselves with ODM, which he described as the largest pro-people party in East and Central Africa.
“If you’re willing to join a substantive political movement for a fair, democratic Kenya where everyone can live with dignity, consider ODM—the largest pro-people party in East and Central Africa! We’re revitalizing the Youth and Students’ Leagues and are calling on passionate young Kenyans to help shape our future. Stand with us,” McOure urged in his statement.
Kebaso, on the other hand, has built a reputation as a vocal critic of mismanagement in government. He rose to prominence through his activism targeting stalled government projects under President William Ruto’s administration. His national campaign, marked by the hashtag “#VampireDiaries”, exposed the alleged misuse of taxpayer funds and gained widespread traction on social media.
Hailing from a politically active family, Kebaso has skillfully combined his background in drama with civic education, using humor and storytelling to engage audiences and spark conversations about governance and accountability.
As Kenya approaches its next General Election, Kebaso’s bid adds to the growing momentum of youthful political engagement, signaling a potential shift in the country’s leadership dynamics.
