HIGH COURT JUDGE DAVID MAJANJA PASSES ON

High Court judge David Shikomera Majanja, has passed on. Majanja died on Wednesday, 10 July 2024 while undergoing surgery at the Nairobi Hospital.

Confirming the news, the Chief Justice Hon. Martha Koome said Majanja will be remembered as a crucial pillar in the institution building of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the Judiciary. She also called for sensitivity and compassion as the JSC and the Judiciary comes to terms with the passing of Justice Majanja.

Taking to his X platform, President William Ruto eulogized Majanja as a brilliant lawyer whose integrity and ability inspired the judicial fraternity. The President extended his condolences to the Judiciary, family and friends of the decorated judge.

Justice Majanja was serving at the Milimani Civil Division Court at the time of his death. He was also re-elected as  a member of the JSC, where he served as a representative of the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA), having been first elected to the commission on 14 May 2019 for a five-year term.

Prior to his re-election, Justice Majanja served as the Chairperson of the Human Resource Management Committee, and was also a member of the Audit, Governance and Risk Management Committee and Learning and Development Committee.

He was first appointed as a judge of the High Court in 2011, and has served in Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Kisii Counties.

The late Justice Majanja held a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He was admitted to the Bar in 1998.
